I just got a Lionel Inspection Vehicle off auction. It is 1:48, or darn close.
Well-modeled, actually. Runs well.

And has Command Control; let me repeat: Command Control. It's 3 inches long.

But yet - no scale, plastic, basically-accurate, reasonably-priced, GE 44-tonner - with or without Command.

Huh.

Well, the 44-tonner has come up more than a few times in conversations here and
with my fellow hobbyists locally. I don't think that "pretty" would apply to
90% of railroad equipment, anyway...most of it is wonderfully grungy and fascinating.
"Pretty" would apply to, oh, I don't know, Bridget Fonda.

The GE 45-tonner would be preferable, anyway. It had side rods on the trucks, a la a
steamer; used to see one locally on the AT&N in Mobile. Lots of action.
I love the 44 Tonner and I have a number of them. The list includes Post War, modren Lionel and Williams and they are all beautiful. Wink
Of course I have to pretend that they are 88 Tonners, but that's OK considering I have no scale 44 tonners and probably never will.

It would be nice to have one with DCS and auto couplers but I guess that job will have to left to MTH.
Look at the size/weight of the MOW car. What does it have to pull? Itself? The heaver the load the more current the motor(s) will have to handle. More current, more heat. More heat, larger heat sinks. If it's a switcher then you are going to want remote couplers which leads to more current and more heat. Why stop there, lets add smoke and sound.
