Even though the figures are apparently static and albeit pricey, this looks like a fun car for people who have Polar Express sets. Of course, it would be even better if the figures circled the length of the car's roof as the train moved, similar to Lionel's chasing figures gondolas, but that would most likely raise the price significantly. While I have ordered this car I was hesitant to do so since the figures appear fragile and vulnerable to breaking - especially the rod holding the boy to the hobo. I do hope that rod is some type of heavy wire for added strength. In fact, it will be ideal if the figures are metal but I'll have to wait until mine arrives to find out.

Bob, do you recall whether the hobo/boy figure was plastic or metal and did it seem to you as fragile as it appears in the photo?

I'm sorry, I didn't look that close. It was there at the last day of the store being open for the convention. I was pretty busy helping other customers at the store, but what I recall the figure was plastic and had a firm wire.. Bob
I am an LCCA member and yes, I did order the car.
I ordered mine at the Chicago convention, it came with a 1 year LCCA membership.
I ordered this too. Pretty sure the description said it swings back and forth as the train moves. Got a one year extension on my membership too. Now that really was a great deal. BigRail
Don't know about you all, but I am about "Polar Expressed-out" at this point. Couldn't see ordering this, when it would have to run in place of an observation car I already have. In the prime of the old Lionel Railroader Club (overtaken by the LCCA a few years ago), club offerings were made at very moderate prices (compared to the time). That isn't the case, today, in my opinion with $80 & $90 Christmas boxcars & the like. You can't go home again.
Yeah, this is a tough one. We all have the observation cars already. Although I supposed this is no different from the first PE set where people were buying the replacement tender in order to have the sounds.
But in this case, I feel like you could either find figures and paint them yourselves or have them 3d printed. I know the cost of this is to support the club though and because of that, I have no complaints about the price.
