One of my favorite model railroad activities is "planting" trees on my layout. While doing so today, I couldn't help but think of Lady Bird Johnson, who said: ". . . important is the individual who plants a tree or cleans a corner of neglect. For it is the individual who himself benefits, and also protects a heritage of beauty for his children and future generations."
Some of you folks have planted trees on your layouts that are masterpieces, far more beautiful and realistic looking than mine. I look forward to seeing your masterpieces.
Although model railroading was probably the farthest thing from Ladybird's mind, she greatly appreciated all types of beauty and I believe she would have enjoyed seeing our model railroad trees and scenery.
