If you look at my current avatar, the picture was taken many years ago at a Greenberg show in Edison and I had a picture of Eddie Murphy on the wall looking over our layout. If you did not know Eddie, he was the nicest guy you would have as a friend. He is missed by many who knew the man! He raised the roof of his Staten Island home to accommodate the huge layout he had. His layout was featured in an OGR magazine issue.

Eddies layout was in run 210  of OGR   Had a before and after picture of his house   He put a second floor on just for trains     Eddie was a rough tough cream puff   He sounded like Luca Brazzi in the Godfather but treated everybody like they were his best friend  These are some pics of when we visited his layout

Just to clarify.  Eddie passed away years ago.  While going through old issues I came across the one that featured Eddie’s layout. I have no idea what became of the layout or the trains

Funny story

eddie called me and told me some guys were coming to meet him about using his layout for some subway movie.  They got his name from the ogr magazine.  He said he knew nothing about subways and asked me to join them in his Luca brazzi voice  The two guys turned out to be director Tony Scott and the executive producer Don for the remake of a the taking of Pelham 123.  They didn’t have enough room at Eddie’s layout to film so I invited them to the nj hirailers layout.  They loved it and were going to create a miniature New York on our layout to film the scene.  The scene was supposed to be people from the mayors office talking to a train  nut to see how the hijackers were going to get out of the tunnel.  They later deleted the scene as the movie was getting too long.  I got to meet Denzel Washington and the production crew gave us a signed scene shoot sheet which I have hanging at the club.   All thanks to Eddie

Tony Greco and a few others sold some of Eddie’s trains for his wife. She gave the rest of the trains to his kids and grandchildren.
As for Eddie being a rough tough cream puff. One of the nicest guys you want to know and have as a friend. It was good to be on his good side as he did have “some friends” like in the godfather film! Lol!
Many of us miss Eddie even after all these years.

I knew Eddie. He had been an electrician at Rockefeller Center and told me stories of how they used to make the strings of lights, ranging from 4 feet to 16 feet in length, that would be used on the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. He actually gave me a cookie tin of lightbulbs used on the tree. Eddie was indeed one of the nicest guys I've met in our hobby. We talked many times on the phone during his last few weeks before he was taken by Pancreatic Cancer.
