Installing a MTH Truck set on Lionel Cars

Hey all,

So I have a scale Lionel boxcar that needs a new set of trucks. I know I can pick up a set of MTH scale Bettendorf trucks for a lot less than Lionel trucks. I am just asking if these will fit the Lionel cars? Is modification needed?

I have searched on the forum for an answer, but I didn’t see any posts to match my search. Please offer guidance if you have done this conversion before.
