Been lurking on this forum for many many months finally brought myself to register and say hello....

My collection includes mostly Post-War Lionel Steamers.... not a HUGE collection and no permanent layout but here is what i have.

-- Lionel 258 2-4-0  (Pre-War as it seems with the Box/Pin style non modern style couplers) Set Includes Rolling Stock

-- Lionel Post War 681 (S-2 Turbine)  6-8-6 1950 Version with Large 2671W tender

-- Lionel Post War 1654 Scout style 2-4-2 w/ 1654T Tender

-- Lionel MPC 8142 C&O "Sounds of Steam" 4-4-2  Just Engine and Tender not whole set.

and my new addiction... LEGACY

-- Lionel PRR Legacy Mikado Road #8631 2-8-2

Looking to get into Legacy Command control have a WTB in the Wanted section for a Legacy 990 Command system...

Running everything on fast track that i setup and take down right now. no room for a permanent layout, hoping to do that soon....

Any clubs/train friends in SE MI? i'm a younger guy (27) and while i'd be happy to make friends with anyone in the area (or online)... i'd prefer to find some friends SOMEWHAT closer in age with me... seems like everyone is 14 or 50 in this hobby (no offense to anyone... ha)  My 2 hobbies.. Trains and Cars... i have the same age issue in my Detroit 5th Gen Camaro Club.

The Detroit Historical Museum's "Glancy Trains Modular" club is the one that Charlie, myself and several other forum members in the area are members of.  No dues other than helping out with setting up the layout and tearing it down before and after the shows we attend if you're available.  Not sure how South you are.  I'm one of the younger members of the club at 18, but there are a couple younger than me and many that are older than me but still a good mix of ages.

Welcome to the forum.

Here's a video from the show we were at on Sunday in Warren.

SantaFe--- thanks for the Bump. I took a look at the glancy website. any word on upcoming events? everything on the site is old (latest is January)

MichMikeM--- I'm definately not hung up on the age thing as i said i don't mind talking to anyone of any age in any location... it's just nice to know im not the baby in every group ya know.... lol.

If we're following our usual schedule, our next operating event(s) will be at "Day out with Thomas" in May(?) at Greenfield Village.  This is usually more of a volunteer like event.  We mainly run the Thomas or other themed trains because they go over a little better with the kids.  Expensive stuff stays at home due to the younger ones grabbing them.  A $50 Thomas is a lot less painful to see hit the floor than a $800 scale steamer.

After that I believe the next time we set up, will be at the Mt. Clemens Gibralter Trade Center for the November Gratiot Valley Train Club show.  That will be the first Sunday in November (possibly the Saturday too if they do another 2 day show).

There is a link to Victor's (our club president) email address at on the front page (bottom left corner) of the Glancy Club website.  I'm sure he could give you some of the details about joining and whatever events we might be signing up for in the future.

Welcome to the Forum. The member who said "don't get hung up on the age thing" has got it right. If it were not for us senior citizen guys who make up the majority of the those who actually buy O-Gauge stuff, we probably would not have this hobby. They are a wealth of O-Gauge information and for the most part a bunch of real friendly guys who don't care what your age is, they just want to help you. Also most of us our parents and grandparents who can relate to you on many levels as well.

My advice, embrace their friendship and help and don't make a big deal over that fact that they have many years on you. It does not matter in our hobby.

Funny that you mention Day out with Thomas.

My mother has worked at greenfield village for 26 yrs and does the Thomas story telling every year... Outside of that she's a costume presenter working in other various parts of the village the rest of the season... I've spent a lot of time on the "Weiser Railroad" behind the Edison and Torch Lake. ha.

Hey Mark,

Hi Mark,

The Detroit 3 Railers is a round robin club.  We meet once a month at members houses and  bring our trains to run.  Most of the members have their own layouts.  Others partner with a member to help host.  We have limited the number of members because some have small houses.  Others have larger setups and can host more.  There are about 20 members and another 7 or 8 who join us on occasion.  It is amazing but everyone's layout is completely different.  We talk trains, a very enjoyable and relaxing evening.

Welcome to the forum.

Dan

Mark, The Glancy group is probably the best way to find out whats going on in the Detroit area.  Many members of the D3R are members of both groups, but not all.  I am not a member of the Glancy group because I live west of AA.  Too much travel.  Mark, I am hosting the April meet you might like to car pool with other members to come out to my place.

Dan

Mark,

We are a group of old codgers that get together, chew fat and play with trains!  Just kidding!  We are basically a round robin style of group.  There is about 20 of us in the group and do get together, chew the fat and play with trains.  We are all ageswand have a blast when ever and where ever we get together.

The next set up for the Glancy Trains modular, will be at the Old Fort Wayne on April 12 & 13.  From there, we will be setting up at Greenfield Villagefor Day Out With Thomas in the Beer Guild for the last weekend in April and the first 2 weekends in May.  As Jake mentioned, this show, for the most part, is Thomas related trains.  From time to time some of our members bring their trains out to run during the Thomas event.

If you are interested in participating with the Glancy Trains Modular Group, we would be more than happy to talk to you and welcome you into the group.  You can contact Victor Bodek or myself.  I live just down the road from you in Southfield.

Also, just so you know, Glancy Trains Modular is in association with the Detroit Historical Society/Museum and the Detroit 3 Railers, D3R, guys other group of train guys for which some of us have our feet in both groups.

Hope to hear from you!

SPIKE,

i sent an email to Victor at the email listed on the Glancy website. but yeah. i'd love to meet some people in real time and will definatly be heading out to the day out with thomas 1 or 2 of the days...since i get into the village for free anyways.

my email is in my profile....

Hi Mark Bee

Welcome to the forum ~ I live in the south of south east Michigan in Blissfield. A regular hot bed of trains of all scales. If you want to see a lot in one place this is the second best place to be On spring York weekend. Should be flyers at the local swap meets. April 20th and 21 first. Three home layout tours, one large HO club, G-Gauge downtown, 3 modular displays at the hall, swap meet on sunday, real train both days and shuttle service to get around.

I hope it is OK to plug this here? seems like a lot of people from the area on this thread. Hopefully I will get a  chance to meet a lot you . Besides if you stop by my place I am always looking for suggestions for improvement on my basement railroad.
