What does the IR installed on some Lionel engines enable you to do
I assume you are talking about the sensor facing down usually on steam tenders or diesel fuel tanks.
The sensor when used with the sensor track can do a few things...
- Upload the engine information to the Legacy base so the orange module is no longer needed. (there are those that prefer the module).
- It can trigger pre-programmed sequences stored in the sensor track which in turn sends command to the Legacy base to trigger sound sequences on engines that are direction specific.
- It can trigger users recordings, 1 per direction, that you can make. These are limited so be stingy on the amount of commands you use.
- If you use the LCS iPad App you can see where the engine is on the layout based on your rendering you created as it passes over the sensor track.
- You can get a fuel and water level reading. (Play value item)
- If you have the LCS WiFi monitor, when the engine goes over the sensor track you can see added information about your locomotive. This is also available using the eTrain program.
