Is a 40 watt transformer enough? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I picked up a Lionel 40 watt transformer - looks like a CW-80 but has only 2 binding posts and is rated for 40 watts, so CW-40?

My intention is to use it to run my DZ-2500 switch machines and push buttons. 21 switches, 21 buttons. Is this too much for the transformer?

I realize that the switch machines won't be all running at once but there will always be an LED lit in each device.

Unless a bunch of them are switched at the same time, I'd think it should be sufficient. The LED's only take a maximum of 20ma each, and the transformer should be good for at least 2 amps.

Pretty much what John said. Unless you go crazy trying to throw a all your switches at the same time, the CW40 should handle it. That's about all it can handle, other than one locomotive pulling unlit cars.

A 40-watter should be able to handle that sort of thing with no problem at all.
