I have a CW-80 Transformer (6-14198). It used to work. At this stage the green light does not come on - so its not functioning.  I'm debating whether to toss it out or not.  Is there some user-serviceable fuse I might want to check that might be an obvious thing to fix? Or should I send it off to the puppy farm?

The official response from Lionel and many form members would be to send it to the puppy farm. I however am into tinkering with and fixing (or attempting to fix) things. I had 2 CW-80s do the same thing to me. I opened them up using a triangle shaped bit and found that the fuse inside had blown. I replaced that with a circuit breaker and closed the thing back up. That worked for the 2 of mine that had gone "bad".

Edit:

I didn't answer your question. I would have to so no, that is not something I would consider easily fixed by most end users.

I know it's not the same but my CW-30 had a short in it.  Every time I tried to run a train, the green light would blink and train would not move. Somewhere on this forum, there was another post about replacing the fuse.  I bought the special triangle head screwdrivers necessary to open it up.  ($12.00) Guess what?  No fuse.  At least nothing that looked like a fuse to me.  Just a circuit board and the rheostat for the speed control lever.  I should have listened to my local train dealer (Drauds Derailment in Lebanon, Pa. Highly recommended if you're in the area!) who told me they were not repairable and to throw it out.  I could have saved the $12.00 and the time I wasted trying to find the fuse.
