Is there a better container crane out there than the Lionel one from 1991? I have it, and its OK, but I have rebuilt it several times and it is starting to look very 1991. Have any of you scratch built one. I had found one from a private model builder in AZ. I understand the market and pricing for custom modeling, but I cannot pay the custom builder price for a static display on a teacher's salary. If anyone has a kitbash that they've done, I'd love to see it. Thanks!

I saw a G scale once at it was amazing. I always wished I had built one myself. I never set up an intermodal terminal though. I had dreamed of one, and a tank car terminal, and an auto carrier terminal, and a.....
So I just look at pictures from the big train clubs.
Model Railroader in the 1980's did an article on a simplified MiJack straddlecrane that you could attempt to build as a static display. It's in the same issue as the original SP double stack cars. A few years back a forum member did build a simplified version too.
Now MODEL RAILROAD ING (a more detailed defunct HO/N Scale magazine) did a more detailed build of a similar straddle loader..
Abeit in HO and non working.
