Just got ahold of a proto sound 2 smokeunit..i dont have proto sound 2 in my trains..is the heater 6 volts and fan 3volts?

Resistyance of heating elements is 8 ohms and it runs in pulsed DC in a PS-2 unit. Running it on track power would probably burn it out faster since the MTH PS-1 units are 16 ohms for track voltage. The fan runs on 5V or less DC, same fan motor as the PS-1. G
In addition, the PS/1 units include some logic to switch in one or two of the smoke elements based on track voltage.
id thought about testing it with batterys..2 aa for the fan 4aa for the heater..
I use a dual-output bench supply for testing, much cheaper. You can put AC or DC on the element on the PS/2 smoke unit, it's just a bare resistor. 5-6 volts on the resistor, and no more than 5 on the fan motor, that must be DC.
2 AAs will spin the fan motor fine.
thats why Id tought ,since Id read some where on the PS2 units..Fan is 3volts and heater was 6volt..Since I into R/C boats I have battery..packs.
