What is your oppinion? I hear the jacketed insulation is very hard to work with on a layout...stiff and hard to strip. Is that true? Thanks.

I don't use jacketed because I'm always tapping into existing wiring. Jacketed makes it much harder to get to the wire.

I find side by side strands connected by insulation, to sit lower than jacketed strands and stays put better holding a shape.
The jacket design is good for conduit pulls, some weather and abuse exposure, and even looks at times when used with other jacketed wire looms.
I use it for trains if there, but I don't buy it for that. The 4 strand made it onto some turnout, whistle, and homebrew power controls, but that's about it; it was there.
Mostly a construction, and industrially based wire for running communication or controls. No real advantage on a layout I can think of, but I don't find entering the loom at random points harder realy. Ten more seconds to slice the jacket maybe.
