Got a Y6B that has never been "shod" before.  Threw two traction tires two days ago.  Parked it as they got stuck in the "brake shoes".  These are on the back set of drivers.  Well, whoever engineered these had NO common sense.  The front set of drivers, traction tires are on the back set of wheels [use that word for ease of understanding].  Take off the bolts to the drive rods, slide them under, bolt back in and away you go.  The back set of drivers, they put the traction tires on the front set of wheels.  Yes!!!!  If they had done like the front set of drivers, OK.  With the back set, you have to remove all the drive rods and valve gear.  Verified this afternoon with Lionel.  It has been suggested to cut them off and run the engine without them.  Actually I need to "reshod" the front set too [but they are easy].

I know some of you have these engines and have solutions.

Thanks for suggestions.

Ah misery loves company... yes, just replaced my Y6B traction tires over the holidays.

I replaced with some diesel undersized tires...not fun.

Could be worse!First set I did I opened the bottom of the frame on this beast, and found out the hard way these were sprung drivers with bushings... 3 hours later.... not a happy camper...

Good news is you don't have a 2-6-6-2 mallet... love taking the entire front steam cylinders off..
