I recall seeing an article by Jim Barrett in OGR a couple of years ago that dealt with installing a hinged lift bridge. Can one of you guys tell me what Run it was in?
And yes, I have the Backshop Video #11 that has a segment on the same subject. The video was very well done, by the way.

May I suggest you pick up a copy of the Barret in the Backshop DVD that highlighted this project.
Jim's series of videos (I believe there were 10) are outstanding reference and informational tools. Now if I only knew which box they were in I'd look at one or two tonight ...

Not familure with Jim's set up but you need to check out Susan Deats' lift bridge.
It is on her blog. She did a super job and documented it in detail with parts and diagrams. Electrical circuits and gas cylinder mounting measurements. Really slick and well thought out. tt
