K-Line Double Signal Bridge

Trying to wire up my signal bridge using isolated rails instead of the pressure switch. I found this diagram online and I understand all of it except why the middle rail has to have an isolated section. Any info would be helpful.

Looks like this one cuts power to the train also. If you just want to operate the signal,the center rail isolation is not needed.
