Hello all,

I am trying to build a layout after a long absence, and I have a lot of Plasticville buildings laying around here.

The problem is that I don´t want them to look just like everybody else´s ¨house¨ or ¨store¨.

Can anyone show me where to find a good tutorial or website that shows how to kitbash these buildings?

Thank you,

ken

RichO posted a good video source.  The thing is, Plasticville buildings are not really any different to bash than any other company's.  The goal of bashing is to make it different, whatever it was.  I'd recommend walking back severla months through this thead- there are various threads on buildings - scratch, bashed, kit.  I'd recommend all, because of often the steps that will. make your buildings different, as you want to them to be, includes stuff like adding awnings, details ont he roof, changing the curtains/blinds/whatever in the windows, hanging a different sign, just painting it differently, etc.  All that is cover in many threads about buildings and structures other than strictly "bashing" ones. .

Here are couple of kitbashed Plasticville kits.  I found the PV

Coaling Tower useful to kitbash and inexpensive to buy and

easy to find at train shows.

Customized Coaling Tower from PV kit  I always liked the

raised tower type of coaling tower better.  I just made a new

top section with new roof.  I happened to have some cor-

regated metal for the roof.

Loading section can remotely dump coal into a car.

Plasticville is a great kit bash starter.  Here are some examples of buildings I built using plasticville.  The gas station is a bungalow turned inside out for a flat surface and no shutters.  The roof is from a k line station.   I think the farm house is kline.   The coal tower is two plasticville with a lot of add on.  I also took a lot of the store fronts added 2nd floors from the town hall but I will have to look for the original photos.

I just added the old pictures I had to find in the post above.   They were all taken in the mid 80s and show one of my first layouts when I got back into trains.   Most of these are store fronts or backs with the 2nd floor added from other plasticville kits.  The station is two kits put side to side.  The fire station has a 2nd floor from the white house kit that I had some parts from.

Another place to look for info on kitbashing Plasticville buildings is the Plasticville Collectors Association. They send out a quarterly newsletter which usually has at least one article on the subject. Their website has all the previous issues available for download (PDF files). Dues are quite reasonable at $8 a year for the electronic membership (newsletters are downloaded by you, not mailed to you)

Hope this helps,

After reviewing the many threads on modifying Plasticville, I decided it was time to try my hand at some of mine.  My goals were to (1) make them look a bit more realistic, (2) glue them together, (3) update to LED lighting.

First, I found an exact Frosty Bar picture that I really liked, and I replicated it:

I guess I now need to camouflage the ITAD!

Next I decided to try my hand at the Fire House and School.  Here they are alone and in a scene in position on the layout:

My main learnings were

1.  At this distance, most of what I did isn't really visible (nor are the minor errors).

2.  I mounted the LEDs on the ceilings inside, but moving forward I think I will leave them on the platform (floor of building) as I think they are more visible there.

The Post Office inserts are from pictures of a Post Office. On the factory, I tried a "heavy weathered" look with some kit-bashed parts from my "spare parts" box.

So am I to assume no one is interested in seeing my Plasticville kit bashes?

Tom,    I tried to send you a privet message through the forum yesterday explaining how to post then saw your post asking about getting pictures off an I phone.   I can not help you with your phone but if you send me an email to stu@modelbuildingservices.com we can exchange phone numbers and set up a time to talk you through getting pictures off your computer.   If they are on your phone sorry i can not help.

Okay, let's try this again.

Plasticville factory parts: two roofs, two loading docks, two right side walls, two left side walls, one back wall, chimney, two freight doors, one front door, three small doors.

Plasticville apartment building: one side wall, one end wall.

Almost all of the above were modified

Custom front wall and a lot of bumper posts, etc. and much more to go.  This is nowhere near finished.
