Kline GG1 question..

Switch to a Williams or Lionel fully solid state reversing unit and this problem will go away.

 

Wiring the motors in series will mitigate the issue and is cheaper(no cost).

Wiring the motors in series was a fix for the "jackrabbit" starts on the truck mounted motors. Sounds like you have a different problem.

Wiring the motors in series will cause the reverse unit to pick up at a voltage lower than the motors' stall speed which will fix/mitigate the exact problem you are experiencing.

 

If the motors are running too fast when you here the "click", let's say at 7 volts to the motors, and the train shoots off, wiring the motors in series will still cause the "click" to occur at 7 volts, but the motors will only see about 3.5 volts.  If the motors stall at or above 3.5 volts, problem solved.

 

7 & 3.5 volts used as an example.  Could be any low voltage and half of it.

When I added an ERR Sound Commander2, I wired my K-Line GG1's motors in series. Mine now operates nice and slow, if I want.

so the brown and blue wires from the board, that spit off to each motor, which is the right way to wire it so i dont have once motor going one way one the other?

how do you like the ERR sound commander? i've had it book marked for a while... been thinking about picking one up for this engine...

Leave a brown on one one motor, a blue on the other, and connect the two "empty" motor terminals with a long wire of another color.

 

insulate and secure the unused blue & brown wires.

Here is the Williams by Bachmann diagram for series wiring.  I used it as a guide, when doing my K-Line GG1.  I traced the wires from the motors back to the board.

 

My K-Line G had no horn or bell, so I really like having the ERR unit in it.  The electric sounds are pretty good.

yeah neither does mine... and for the $49 price, doesnt seem like a bad deal for sounds.
