have a, kw transformer,one side will not power up,unless i continually push the direction button.any suggestions where i should look ,once i take it apart.

Look at the contacts right at the direction switch, should be an easy fix.

removed case to inspect ,check and clean contacts,visibly all looks well.its only the left side that doesnt work.also noticed if i move the whistle handle slighty to left ,it will flicker and power up,same as with the dir button ,after several attempts will flicker and power on.thanks to those who responded .any other ideas.

Your issue is obviously right in the handle contact area, maybe you need to put a load on the transformer and then use a meter to see where the voltage is dropping. Other than dirty contacts, this is not a real common problem area as a rule.
