KW Transformer

What makes you suspect of the breaker?  It is supposed to trip in 15-45 seconds with 20 amps into a .2 ohm load.

The circuit breaker in that transform is designed to protect the transformer, not your model trains.

I still like the KW but you'll like want to add an inline, quick acting circuit breaker to protect the trains you'll be running.

Also, how is the chord on that unit?

I just short the terminals with whatever I have handy like a pair of needle nose pliers. Apply power and wait for it to trip. My ZWs trip in under 5 seconds, maybe less.

The ZW spec is 11-40 seconds with 30 amps into .1 ohm.

Good to know but I'll take faster.

Love my KW!  I've had it for 35-40 years.  On the new layout I've started, I plan to add external breakers and meters.

I would like to personally thank Kent at Tranz4mr for the step by step information he has on his website and the personal help he gave me when I needed to repair my KW.  The few things I ordered from him didn't even make up for all the help he gave me and the wealth of information on his website.
