Thought some of you might be amused by this shot of my repair bench. It just kind of hit me that I had two of the biggest, heaviest, and most powerful Standard Gauge engines ever built apart on my bench at the same time - and both of them Milwaukee Road. The Lionel Hiawatha is down for a burned out smoke resistor. If you look closely you will see that the top is off the smoke unit. The Super 381E is being cured of a whole variety of maladies caused by a combination of really awful MTH engineering and some serious abuse by the late original owner, his estate sales agent, or both.
