Well if I'm following you, you would have the softness of the latex. If you color it and detail it, it will crack the paint. Just touching it would mess up your work. Why not make plaster rocks from the molds? Don
I've used latex to make a mold of a manufactured rock face I purchased for around $15. Using the mold I made many, many rocks and saved myself a lot of dough. It is really easy and I am far from an arts and crafts person.
I have some tunnel areas I wanted to scenic, and was thinking that if I used latex instead of the plaster or resin, I'd have thinner and lighter rock face to use.
I've not ever used liquid latex, so I wasn't sure of its texture or pliability after it dried.
It is very pliable. The limiting factor will be the plaster overflowing from the mold the more you try to bend the mold to what you like. You will get the hang of it quickly. good luck!
Mo, here’s a link to watch a guy make rock face from molds, but he makes them thin like it seems you want to do. It might help. Course ya need the latex molds to make the rock face.
