I am building my first layout, I have a 8x8 table with a 4x4 add on giving me a 12' length on one side x4 . I have mostly 036 curves and 16 pcs of 060 (All fastrac)I have spent many hours trying to find a decent layout, this is all the space I have, I also have 2 sets of the lionel elevated trestle sets and was wondering how much track is need for the trestle sets and the best way to confiqure them, The best lay out so far I came across in the Lionel fastrac book Coal Field Railroad pg 123, I do have a Lionel bascule Bridge I would like to put somewhere, I have plenty of pre, post and modern accessories to use, I also have a ZW275 and CW80 for transformers and help is appreciated

Thanks

I'll do my best to answer your question, but have to admit I'm a bit confused about what you're asking.  Are you saying you're not wedded to the layout in the picture and are looking for something new/better?  If so here are my initial thoughts:

-That 8 foot table depth in a corner could be problematic.  You will have access issues if you have a derailment or other issue.

-With your trestle set, are you looking for it to be a dedicated elevated line?  Or will it join up with the table level line?  If you join to the table line, make sure you have a grade that is not too steep. 4% is about max of what you should do.  That means you need about 200 inches of run (each way) to get up and down to an 8 inch track height.  If you're keeping the trestle as a dedicated line at its own level, you obviously need less run.

-Consider where you put that trestle set.  As you have it now, it's right smack in the middle and will obscure much of your layout (lines, trains, scenery, buildings, etc).  Keeping the elevated portion in the back against the walls will improve your sightlines.

Those are just a few thoughts based off what I thought you were trying to ask.  Hope at least some helps.
