Looking for track ideas for this size layout with Atlas 3 rail track. want to run multi trains with reverse loop and siding for parking trains. Looking also to to a 2 level with either incline or separate  train level to add a MTH bridge with 2 extra girders, any good ideas will be helpful.  ThanksIMG_1580

I think you have to do some soul searching (so to speak).  The first question you need to consider is what is your anticipated use of the layout?  Is it that you just want to see trains run or are you looking for some realistic operation.  If you are just wanting to see trains run then a "circular" layout will be best.  Otherwise a point to point layout may be a better choice.  Then do you want an around the room layout with a shelf type system located against your walls with maybe a peninsula.  Or for continuous running a layout in the center of the room may be a better choice.  Give some thoughts to these questions then post your desire(s) in the Layout Building section of this forum under Track Plans and Layout Design.

Thanks ,but I only have room within the plan I showed I can't do against walls/shelf system. This is what I came up with so far and want it to be as realistic as possible. It is not a grand layout do to its size . I wanted to use larger curves like 072 for larger trains down the road but again don't think it to be possible due to the size limit. Just looking for some input

IMHO, L-shaped layouts can provide more interesting allocations of available space and a refreshing break from rectangular platforms with ovals as the main (and often monotonous) track design feature.

I've attached JPG files of my L-shaped layout. The E-W lower level is a figure eight with reverse loops built-in to that venerable design with a suburban district, a city park, a "Victorian Village," and some downtown action accessories.

The N-S leg of the L contains sidings for parked trains and sites for action accessories in an industrial district plus a Dinosaur Park for my dino-crazy great grandsons to enjoy.

The upper level is a Christmassy area with 35 Dept 56 lighted (and some animated) porcelain buildings -- served by three short trolley lines.

I chose Lionel tubular track because I like the retro look. All curves and switches are O42 -- the largest curvature I could accommodate on the platforms, which are sized to fit in an L-shaped room. My trade-off:  I knowingly minimized the perimeter aisles in order to maximize the trackage.

The layout is dual-wired for Lionel TMCC with a CAB-l and MTH DCS with a Remote Commander. The control system is switchable thru a knife switch,  so I can run trains of either system but not both at once.

Carry on  -- set your imagination loose!
