Not to be an old fuddy duddy, but is the paint correct for this passenger set? From my limited bit of research the car colors are different and the white on the engine should be silver. I know this is a low end set at $430, but how hard is it to get the paint correct? Or should I table my gripe because this is actually painted correctly for a certain range of years?

The passenger car paint schemes are incorrect.
Southern Pacific had four paint schemes for streamlined cars:
By the 1960s passenger cars were being repainted to the silver with red stripe paint scheme.
Guys we are offering a set of cars that are a different paint scheme that have not been done. The BLACK WIDOW SCHEME cars were never done. With lots of engines done they needed cars to match.

The set is total fantasy. Not only is the color off on the locomotive but the SP never rostered the FT, had passenger cars painted in that scheme, and the only domes on the SP were the homebuilt 3/4 dome-lounges.
However, if it is appealing to you that is what matters most.
