While running a Lionel LionChief Plus Mikado, the sounds stopped working. I found the problem, a shorted wire going to the speaker along the drawbar of the engine.
My question is can the main board (691ENGM116-p LIONCHIEF PCB) be repaired by replacing the audio amp or is it just best to replace the entire board? The board is available currently for $55.00.
All other functions work as they should. Only the sound is non functional.

If the rest of the board works- then the cheaper fix is the audio amp.
If you get a fully dead board because the short killed the entire board and blew every chip on it- then the replacement board is the only option.
