I wanted something out of the ordinary for one of my scrap metal loads, so I came up with these leaf springs. I doubt they're prototypical for O gauge, but it is possible a piece of machinery or vehicle exists that a 6' and 8' leaf spring might fit. They look good with the load.

At work, I have a foot shear, which I used to cut the leafs, and I flattened some steel wire to use as the banding. This is probably about as small as is practical.

You're right about the sick mind! They really aren't very hard to make. The most difficult part is bending the banding around the leafs. I don't have a pin vise, so I hold the leaves in one hand, and bend the banding with needle nose pliers. This kind of stuff keeps me out of trouble.
