I know some LED "bulbs" have been manufactured for direct replacement of existing incandescent AC bulbs without have to add other electrical components but has anyone seen such an LED bulb that will go in the push in type light socket (Christmas light style) used in MTH RK passenger cars.

Thanks Stan, I'll check it out.
YIKES! At almost $6/ea for the bulbs, I'd upgrade to LED strip lighting. You get much more even lighting, and flicker-free performance as well.
I can recommend a nice kit if you’re interested
Coach Joe,
On some of the new Christmas Tress they have LED mini bulbs, the replacement bulbs may work, if they are the right size.

GRJohn, I've got a roll of those LEDs and know I would need to add a rectifier or some other components to feed the LEDs DC. I've got a passenger car apart to add people and realize a seven car string of lights is just sucking up the juice so I was looking for a quick fix. Barring a cost effective replacement bulb, which $6 is not, I was going to look up some of your past posts on the subject. I had purchased bayonet type LED bulbs from Town and Country a while ago and I don't remember them being that expensive. So I guess it's time to button up this car and figure out what I'm going to need and lay in parts to do all 7 cars, maybe even all my passenger cars.
Dave, Never thought of the Christmas LEDs. I did think about some of the smaller battery operated LED strings for decorating but being battery operated they would need DC.
GRJohn, I see your LED regulator board is out of stock at Hennings. Will there be an more coming down the pike? My soldering skills are really not up to making my own boards.
Joe, I have a new build that should be shipping any day from China, I'm hoping within a week or two at the most I'll have lots of the regulator boards.
Thanks John, I'll check in next weekend and see if they're back in stock.

Shawn,
I ordered sets of red and green ones for my American Flyer switch controllers. Originally they were 14V or 16V bulbs and generated a lot of heat. These bulbs run cool and I don't worry about melting the plastic if I run my trains too long since their current draw is minimal. One of the best small purchases I've ever made.
For Coach Joe's application in passenger cars, I'd go with an LED string from one of our suppliers, or even look into using a string of Christmas lights with the proper circuitry. I just got a string of 200 for $10.
