I have completed a swap of parts in a WBB GP-7/9, adding a DC commander. I would like to have the headlights be directional. I don't understand how the bulbs are wired in the body of the loco and think the easier solution would be to simply remove the bulbs and wire in different headlights directly to the ERR board. Can LED lights be wired directly to the ERR board? If so, does anyone know of a source?

I buy and use the pre wire types, they already have the resistor in them. On the ERR boards the black LED wire goes to the head lite connection on the DC command boards, the red wire is the ground, then you will have directional lighting.

Thanks Marty, what is your source for the lights?

You can wire a plain LED bulb of the correct size and color temperature with a series 470 ohm resistor to the ERR DC Commander outputs. Total parts cost, about ten cents or less. I like warm white for older diesels, and usually amber for most steamers. Modern diesels get brighter white LED's.
John, thanks for the input, where do you purchase these?
Henry
I get my LED's from a variety of sources, eBay, and many other Internet sources. It all depends on exactly what I'm looking for. I keep thousands of LED's in stock at any one time, flashing, flickering, various colors. flat, rounded, flangless, etc.
Same pre-wired LEDs $6.87 save $10 if you can wait about 3 weeks. J
