I have just changed out all of the smoke unit batting on all my legacy Lionmasters - there is excellent smoke now in all but one.

Big boy with whistle smoke has not shown the same improvement. Is this just because of the division for the whistle supply, does the 2 elements/fans have a impact?

Or is it just a case of trial and error to get the best balance between the position of the batting and the elements?

i would mention that since doing this the whistle smoke is much improved. I am using Lionels "string" batting and have watched Big Mike show how its done. I was also carefull I thought to keep all the airways clear.

Can anyone with a whistle smoke LM BB comment please.

thanks

Mike

Here's my history with our LM BB:

From the factory, the whistle steam would frequently clog and required a blast of compressed air (Putting the tip of the "straw" right against the opening in the whistle) to get going.

Once going, the whistle steam would also "run dry" before the regular stack smoke would.

I noticed better performance if we added the smoke a whole day before running rather than refilling right before a run session.

Overall, the main stack volume was super thick and the whistle steam was slow to start and quick to run dry.

A few months in, we had to send it into Lionel for a smoke unit failure and it came back with none of the problems described above. The overall volume was a bit less from the main stack but the whistle steam never again showed signs of clogging and it would stay wet just as long as the main stack seemed to.
