Bought a New Legacy system( Thanks Santa) along with a CP Rail Legacy Diesel to operate and operate. Also the "Great Pumpkin" delivered a MTH RailKing PA 2-10-0 (the review in Classic Toy Trains prompted Purchase) anyhow will the Legacy allow me to operate all the features of The MTH Loco? or will I need to get one of the MTH Remotes and TIU systems? Thanks Tom Weaver

To get all of the command features of the MTH set you will have to get the MTH DCS system or the DCS remote commander I believe it's called. The remote commander gives you most of the features to a single engine at a time but DCS will give you a much broader control and allow you to control multiple engines at the same time.
Legacy using a Powermaster or TPC will give you some control but in conventional mode.
Tom weaver,
Marty gives great advise, let me take this a little further, Lionel's Legacy remote control can only control MTH P2/P3 engines in Conventional mode and that is with the addition of the Powermaster. The Lionel Legacy was never engineered to control P2/P3
engines, except in conventional mode. Now that you have invested in the Legacy 1st
if you want to control P2/P3 engines fully, you will need to invest in the complete DCS package. The DCS will control 95% of all Legacy options also. The one disappointing thing about the DCS system, is that it does not control the FasTrack Command Control switches, without wiring the switches to an AIU. However the Legacy Cab2 remote, controls the FT CC wireless Switches, even without the Powermaster. My advise is to purchase a little at a time, the Z4K with side receiver, and the full DCS, to add to your Legacy layout.

Technically, DCS will control NONE of the Legacy options. It will operate a Legacy locomotive in TMCC mode without access to any Legacy specific features/options.
As Marty and Dave already stated, ideal control of a DCS loco is achieved with full DCS.
Having said that, I've run An MTH Ps2 loco conventionally via the legacy handheld and Lionel TPC, they do run fantastic under this setup. You still get whistle, bell, and electrocoupler and access to some pfa announcements via the handheld.
Once under way MTHs outstanding speed control makes it hard to tell the loco is even being run conventionally.

Those we don't speak of!

So Looks like to use the MTH I Need this http://www.mthtrains.com/content/50-1001 Then will the MTH System operate the Lionel Legacy Loco's?

You also need the connection cable to hook your DCS and Legacy control boxes together. At that point you will be able to operate the TMCC features of your Legacy engines (but not the Legacy-specific ones, as those codes are still proprietary to Lionel)

This might work for what I want seeing that I have only one MTH locomotive. http://mthtrains.com/content/50-1033 ?
RickO,
That post with the Red Reaper was absolutely great, best laugh I have had in weeks!

LOS,
I agree and it's how I now operate, set your layout up for DCS and add the Legacy to it, works like a dream. I might add the Powermaster to the legacy also, to run conventional engines from the Legacy Cab2.

Anyone pull off running both systems via the individual apps on their phones or other Bluetooth devices - and simply switch from Lionel app to MTH app on the same device? Effectively getting all of both systems features on a single control device??
I run DCS, TMCC and Legacy engines using the Premium version of the DCS App. It works quite well!

Ok, but that's not what I was asking. You aren't able to access the Legscy functions with that app, are you?

Yes, you can access the Legacy features,
It's the DCS Remote that can only run Legacy engines in TMCC mode. The app runs Legacy engines as Legacy engines and TMCC engines as TMCC engines.

Wow how was MTH able to get the licensing to do that??
And, you can't do MTH DCS with the Lionel app, right?

Lionel and MTH are in business together in MTH's Lionel tinplate line, manufactured by MTH, with licensing from Lionel.

Correct.
Hence my quote below

Because Lionel has made the Legacy code public. They didn’t have to license it. Smart move in my opinion because you still can’t run any Legacy engines without a Legacy base. So Lionel sells more 990s. They also sell more Legacy engines.
Edit to correct with to without.
Yep. Sorry.
