Ordered a few trucks last week, including a mid-sized box truck, from one of our Forum sponsors and was adding some homemade custom decals. The last step in the decaling process is to "bake" the item for 10 minutes and, somehow, the box truck got tipped over on its side in the oven and fell onto the rack. When I retrieved it, the plastic box side had melted over the grates and it was ruined.
After kicking myself for letting that happen, I was trying to decide whether to buy another truck and start over or just let it go when the idea struck me to just trash the truck completely and use it as the centerpiece in an auto junk yard that I would add to my layout in an unused corner. I weathered and trashed the truck as best I could and made up some weathered automotive parts and pieces and junk I had just laying around and with a little help from some Model Tech Studios products, came up with this little junkyard.
Just goes to show that there are many ways to make use of something in our model train world.
