Should Lionchief Fastak terminals be unplugged at the track when powering the track via a conventional transformer? I think I have burned out two of these terminal tracks by not disconnecting the plug at the track. The wall packs were unplugged from wall outlet.

If you have a traditional transformer, throw the LionChief wall warts in the trash*. Anything that runs on the wall warts will run with the traditional transformer just fine up to 18VAC.
Backfeeding the wall warts (plugged in or unplugged from the wall) with AC from the traditional transformer through the Fastrack is a NO NO.
*Or find a niche use for them to power DC circuits like internal lighting for your buildings and such and have certified that they have not suffered damage from the backfeeding that has occurred.
Jim Radiker: As bmoran4 has stated, even with the wall wart unplugged, while you have the connection to the track, you are feeding AC into the power converter circuit and that can be bad. You have probably blown out a capacitor or two. So yes, disconnect the wall warts and it's connection from the track.
