Any idea when this should ship?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I was wondering the same thing.
Just check the Lionel Website for the shipping date.
For the 200th aniv.
Dec 2013...we can only hope.
Lionel's product delivery schedule says Aug 13. I guess we missed it.
You would think common sense would say to get rid of the Aug 13 date.
2014 on the 100 anniversary in 2013, way to go Lionel!
Frankly, I see them cancelling this, as it is obviously interfering with Lionels ability to release yet another modern Heritage Diesel every 4 weeks....
Those who were fortunate to have ordered the first GCT waited a very long time for it's release from Lionel. But, it was well worth the wait. I understand the frustration about having to wait, but your patience should be rewarded.
Spence, my guess is you can still order one. Check with your regular dealer and if that does not, Nassau Charlie had some available some time back or perhaps Charles Ro.
PTC: thank you; will give that a try.
Chipset:
My recollection is well over two years from point of order.
Is this the same version of the one that was offered to the Lionel Rail Roader Club back in April?

Wow, that is good to know!
Well, I guess that just gives more time to save money and plan for it, no sense worrying about it for the time being.
Thanks PCT!
Well, putting aside the 100th Anniversary, it appears that the piece is on it's way, and possibly in time to make a late appearance on our Christmas Layouts before we take them down.
Although it had been in the works for a couple of years, I think the older/larger GCT took about a year to be delivered from the time the orders went in. The neat thing is we watched them being handmade, thanks to photos posted on the TW Design web site. That was 250 pieces being made at the TW studio. This is 2013 pieces, and although smaller, looks like it has a lot of the same detail.
It will actually fit in well with O gauge trains, much like the old Lionel No. 115 stations. And they will go perfectly if you have the Department 56 New York City Buildings like I do.
Looking forward to delivery in the next 30 days or so. Anything that TW has had a hand in is worth the wait.
Did you hear something about 30 days?
That would be cool.
From another thread:
There has been a lot of interest in when we will be shipping the 637195 – Grand Central Terminal 100thAnniversary Station. We have made every attempt to get these items here as fast as possible, but unfortunately; due to high volume of shipments, these will not be arriving in NC until approximately 12/23/13 and will not be shipping out to all of you until end of 2013, beginning of 2014.
We apologize for this delay and will make every effort to get these out to everyone as quickly as possible once they arrive.
Thanks,
LIONEL SALES DEPT
This is still a huge disappointment! A a huge marketing blunder! Grand Central Terminal is 100 years old and lionel can't get a product to celebrate it on time, and or available to more consumers especially in nyc at christmas time say at the MTA transit store in Grand Central! Also lionel is never up-front with information to us dedicated collectors and operators who buy this stuff. It's an insult to see shipping dates on the website! Just take them off! And calling them too is a waste. I want the CEO of lionel to do some damage control here and get things straight and information accurate!
Who is the person in charge of producing this item anyway? Do the managers at lionel communicate with each other? Product development, production, advertsing, web store sales, accounting? It seams like a joke, but it isn't, it's a business very poorly run!
We can also address quality as well on another days topic. Strasburg switcher problems, plymouth switcher problems, culvert loader problems the list goes on...why am I in this hobby? I feel like nothing works right anymore!
The lionel site still reads August delivery, see what I mean. It's sad, no one gives a darn at lionel.
I gave up on Lionels web site a long time ago for shipping dates.
I just follow what the vendors post here as updates.
It wasn't from Lionel, so it was here in plenty of time.
That is a neat ornament, I picked one up last year as well.
Fortunately the GCT people marketing the 100th anniversary planned far enough ahead to have stuff available slightly before the start of the year of the actual 100th anniversary.
OT, but maybe that's why Lionel marketed a 10th anniversary Polar Express item early. By the time it arrives, it will be the 10th anniversary.

Just to give you guys an idea of the size...
In the following link is Lionels under arch bridge, with an American Flyer S gauge crossing it. The GCT length is about the same as an S Gauge loco and tender.
Its too small for O Gauge....
Well, the new GCT is 4 inches shorter than the bridge in length but twice the height and width:
Wow, all the anger at a delayed train item - what a shocker!
I think some people need to switch to decaf.

And they say Model Trains is a dying hobby?
/emote looks out of bedroom window at mobs of OGR subscribers and forum members, with rakes, shovels, pitforks, storming Lionel HQ, shouting give us GCT! Give us GCT! Give us GCT!
I have one on order and I'm fairly calm about whether it's delivered in 2013 or 2014. I'm sure the original GCT wasn't completed on schedule either .
Merry Christmas/Kwanzaa or the holiday of your choice to you all. And may your GCT models arrive sooner rather than later.
I know I'm just the opposite of angry. It comes when it comes.
I wanted Grand Central on my Christmas Layout so I made my own statuary and put in on top of the D56 Union Station!
Too bad for Lionel that they missed the opportunity to sell these at Grand Central during the Holiday Season and the 100th anniversary year. No reason for me to be angry.

Your rendition of the GCT Skip is spectacular. Outstanding photo as well.
I just received my shipping notice and tracking number!
Bob,
Is yours coming through the Lionel Railroader Club? I ordered mine through a retailer so I assume they will get theirs a little later.
Please post some photos when it arrives! Thanks.
Skip,
Yes I ordered it through the LRRC. I'll post some pics.
Mine is due on Friday.. according to UPS will post some pics if no one else has. Mine through LRRC also.

Great Pictures Bob. It looks great. Thanks!
Looks real nice.
I think they did a really good job with this model of the GCT. In terms of the lighting, it would be an easy fix to upgrade this.
Everyone who ordered this one should be very pleased. Thanks for the excellent photos, Bob.
Mine arrived today - #0067 of 2013. Will definitely plan to convert to low voltage LEDs rather then the single 120v AC LED bulb packaged with it. It is a very nice looking model - I am very pleased with the quality. I too purchased thru LRRC when they first announced it last April.
