Lionel 120L tunnels- is there history or information on these?

I bought this a few years ago at a show. As far as I can figure it appears to be a prewar Lionel 120L tunnel but based on the big auction site, that designation covers a ton of variations (or the sellers are making it all up?). Does anyone know of a resource on these? I would like to know the different variations, when they were made, etc. Thanks for any clues.
