I recently acquired a Lionel Smithsonian Dryfuss in 3-rail. I know they made the matching 21" cars in 2 rail, but did they also produce the same for the 3-rail? I've been told they did, but I can't find anything online that says so, no photos or SKU numbers, etc. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. So the 3-rail 21" smithsonian cars do exist! Do you happen to know the SKU numbers of the cars? How much does each smithsonian passenger car weigh?
FRANK - Where in NJ are you based? I am in NYC. Would love to come see that awesome looking layout sometime! -Mike
I had the Dreyfus with the roller base, I passed on the cars because they were $500 each and there were 13 cars. That was 20 years ago, even today that's a lot for toy trains. :-)
The Lionel brochure (see http://www.kohs.com/FAM_Passenger_Car_Reference.html) mentions Prototypic wheel tread profile which I assume is incompatible with 3-rail.

Those trucks alone make me want those cars! Wow.
I see that GGD has listed that some of the new releases will have BB trucks?
Yes.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Im still a little bit confused as I believe the photos above are 2-rail cars. Did they for certain make this in 3-rail and if so what are the SKU numbers? Any info is greatly appreciated!
Never made , the 2 rail Smithsonian are very heavy ,matter of fact I seen a 13 car set and the Dreyfus would not even pull them .buy a set of GoldenGate if you can find them .
