Hey everybody, I just recently purchased a used lionel scale mikado, and it's been having a few issues. I use Lionel's legacy command system, and this locomotive is equipped with tmcc, I programmed it into my remote and from the legacy remote I can only make the locomotive go forwards and backwards. Nothing else. The locomotives railsounds don't respond to my legacy remote, nor does the directional lighting come on and it doesn't chuff while in motion. I only get whistle/bell when I hit the horn/bell button on my transformer. I've tried resetting the locomotive using the reset button on the legacy remote, the locomotives whistle blasts once as it should, but the unresponsiveness to the whistle/bell and other features still continues. I've also checked to make sure the wireless tether between the locomotive & tender are hooked up correctly, and it is. Any ideas?

When you set the locomotive up in Legacy, did you select "TMCC" as the control type? If not, change the control type from "LEG" (Legacy) to "TMCC" and the locomotive should respond as it should. Also check that the run/program switch is set to run too.

What happens is Legacy-equipped locomotives are capable of receiving 16-bit digital broadcasts from the Legacy base, but the older TMCC locomotives can only handle an 8-bit digital broadcast. By setting the control type to "TMCC", older locomotives will receive the proper 8-bit system from the Legacy base.

You also may want to test it in conventional that would ensure all the engines features are functioning.  There is a switch normally for RS/SS.  SS only gives whistle/bell and turns off chuff.

Then you can do a reset AUX1 0, and then reprogram the features for that engine. (Instructions give procedure and reset code).  G
