I purchased a postwar Lionel 91 circuit breaker awhile back and it has worked well for me until recently. The trip function still works, but the light has stopped working or only lights for a second or so when tripped and goes out. I thought that the #53 bulb inside was bad, but changing the bulb did not fix the problem. Any ideas on what can cause this and how best to fix it?

Update: I just discovered that after tripping the breaker and resetting it many times the light works more often. Must be dirt or oxidation somewhere inside. I may have to use some electrical contact cleaner and see if that helps. Anyone else have a similar problem with these?

Thank you C W.

In reference to the load having to be there, do you just mean power to the track or do you mean an actual engine or lighted car drawing power from the track?

I think I have just answered my own question to the above along with your help CW which also is most likely the answer to my problem. I now think you mean that there has to be an engine drawing power from the rails. I discovered that my engine was not making good contact on the track and when I fixed that the light on the 91 when tripped makes the light come on.
