I have a Lionel CSX AC6000 (6-38414).  One of the ditch lights does not light.  Does anyone know how it connects to the wiring of the engine?  Lionel shows the part as not available.  Hopefully it is just as loose wire.

The engine also is missing one of the steps on the pilot and has a broken windshield wiper arm.  These parts do not seem to be available for separate sale.

The operative phrase here is handle with care.

Thanks

Try resetting the locomotive first to see if the other one lights back up. Each LED has two wires that connect it to probably the same circuit as the front headlight. It's possible the wire broke right at the base of the ditch light housing.

In terms of the missing step, you would have to replace the entire pilot (Lionel part #630-840-3650). Although Lionel does not have a replacement wiper for the AC6000, you might be able to substitute one used on the SD60 or Dash 9. Try searching Lionel's Replacement Parts website for windshield wipers; most of the in-stock parts have pictures so you can compare each wiper to your broken part. You can also search for alternates to the ditch lights too.

Good luck!

I've replaced them and or have made live dummy legacy loco's into Powered ones. some of these LED's have various colors of lights... even when they're the same part #. So I've had to replace both. Replacing the entire Truck is not needed.

but be ready to order at least 2. Make sure there is ample room to install the new LED's in the unit. I've damaged them by removing them from one unit to another. Usually an exacto knife will work or sharp pocket knife. Just to make sure there's enough room to slide the LED's in and out w/out damaging them.

LED's are also available aftermarket but you need to get the proper DC voltage on those. Here's one place to get them:   http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/ledlights1.html

Like John said... make sure your connections are good first before trying to replace them... they're likely disconected (bad wire) or something. LED's should last 9 hrs / day for 40 years??? something like that.

I hope this helps you or just have a local service tech repair it for ya if you're a little uncomfortable with it.
