I have a few questions on wiring the switch for aux power, etc. I know that the Lionel video shows disconnecting the jumper and connecting a wire to aux in, but what about the aux gnd connection? Is it not to be used? Also what is the data connection used for? One last question. Where can I find a similar cable to the one used that goes to the remote switch controller. I need longer lengths.

 Thanks,

Ed

Here is a link to the manual. https://www.lionelsupport.com/...0GenericCCswitch.pdf

Aux GND and Aux In are used together for aux power. Aux GND is your common and Aux In is your hot /A.

I don’t recall what the data wire is for, but I think it is the TMCC / Legacy data wire connection.

Use can use ordinary telephone cable as an extension for the controller. Don’t cut the controller cable.

Just use a terminal splice connector to connect the wires near the placement of the controller.

George,

Thank you for the reply. The reason I asked about the gnd connection was because the Lionel video shows only using a single connection to aux in, and not using the gnd connection. I was questioning that reason.

The data connection is undocumented, don't know what it would be used for.  As mentioned, if you have a common on all the outside tracks, which is normal for 3-rail, you don't need the ground for aux power.

FWIW, if you run command with constant voltage on the tracks, just use track power.  The switches use VERY LITTLE power, even when switching.  For DCS compatibility, I replace the jumper from TRACK JUMPER to AUX IN with a 22uh inductor, that solves the issue of any DCS interference by the electronics of the switch.

Thank you for your reply also. What is a 22uh inductor, and where do I find them, especially since Radio Shack no longer exists in my area. If I use aux power would that also negate any DCS interference since there would be no DCS signal on the positive or ground. Do you know a good source for the four wire cable that used for the switch controller.

Four or six conductor telephone wire from Amazon, Home Depot or Menards. Four conductors would be just for the controller; six would be if you want to add the Aux power wiring to the same location. You can buy small spools or large boxes depending on how much you need. Home Depot will cut it to the length you want too.
