Well, I really and truly hate to say anything negative about my beloved train maker but:

The door greeter came Tuesday but the head was broken off and then on the second one shipped it didn't have a battery cover on the bottom.

In addition the quality of the item being very disappointing, the directions say to use three AAA batteries when it actually requires two AA batteries.  It looks really nice from a distance but just isn't up to Lionel standards.  Also, I can't seem to find the on/off switch for the lantern that is light activated.  Just thought you would like to know that.  I thought for approx. 159.00 not including shipping it would be a better item than it was.

Yes, I understand from Lionel many from the first run that arrived damaged in shipment.  Most had the damage in the figure's left arm.

Thankfully more have just landed at Lionel and are on the way to dealers this week.  Hopefully the second run is better packaged and in better condition to replace all the defective ones from the first run and satisfy demand.  I have several customers waiting on replacements from the first run.  Shipping is costly!

IndyDanny,

I have to agree with you on this one, as it is no where near the quality that I would have expected, and especially for the cost. It is not resin from what I can tell. It appears to be a very thin ceramic like a clay pot that has not been fired. The first one I received was broken at the neck all the way around. I contacted the dealer and he explained they did a really poor job designing the original packing, so he together with the manufacturer re-designed the foam surrounding the figure.

He gladly took back the damaged one stating that I could have easily broke it while it was being unpacked. so he sent a call tag for that one and shipped me another. I am afraid to unpack it for what I might find, or the putting it out due to the fact that someone could easily bump it and knock it over or break an arm off.

Therefore, even though I thought it was a great concept, I will be sticking to train purchases in the future, unless I can see the quality of an item.

What a dud!!

Joe

Here's a couple that shipped in earlier this week.  They are replacements from the last batch of broken ones. These are ok!  (Whew!)  They were not packaged any different or better than the first run, but they are still fragile!  I am not sure what they are made of.  I think the painting on the first run was better.
