I just purchased a Lionel GP30, a real nice model. I had planed to fix the pilots and two rail it but!!. I turned her over and I find that only one axel on each truck is driven. Im guessing this affects the pulling power, especially since the traction tyres will go in the conversion. Ive had a look at a few photo's of this model and the drive seems to come with all axels driven as well. So how good or bad are the drives. I can't think What Lionel was thinking here.
