Hey I was trying to spruce up my train room walls and managed to snag this electric dealer sign, new in the original Lionel box! I was trying to figure out what era it is from but wondered if anyone has seen it before. I'm thinking 80's but not sure. Does anyone else collect electric lionel signs/displays?

Judging by the way those kids are dressed I'm guessing mid '80s "ish", I grew up in that era and the jean jacket on one kid and the izod/garanimal T-shirt on the other look all to familiar, along with the shorter hair parted on the side.
Those are pretty cool, I would love to have one of those for my trainroom!
I was thinking maybe I could identify the engines in the pic to find out an approximate year. Anyone have a guess at a catalog year to start with?
The diesel came from the Nickel Plate Road fallen flag series #6 which was 1992.
It came with twin diesels, a good looking set.

That is a nice sign I will have to keep an eye for one also.

Item Number 6-5930 (or 6-65930).
Offered as part of the Dealer Promotional Package in 1993 and offered again in 1994.
We have 6 of them left. There were two; Part#9065929000 or Part#9065930000.
The Lionel Electric Trains sign is Part#9065929000. These are new in sealed boxes, purchased when we were an authorized service station around 1993. I know we have the Part#9065929000 if your interested in the other I can check. Make an offer. Hilife@comcast.net. Jerry
The signs are great....I decided years ago to try to dress up the train room with several different versions of train related clocks... Some of the clocks are "service station" versions and some are special production. One in particular is a one of a kind produced for a retiring Lionel employee. Here are a few pictures....

Tres cool clocks!
THANKS for sharing!
Thanks Art!!! glad you enjoyed the pictures...

That's a lot of clocks to change when daylight savings time comes and goes
Doug
You are right Doug!!!...that is why I just leave the them alone and enjoy. I do employ an old Three Stooges technique......add up all of the times and divide by the number of clocks..LOL, and them look at my pocket watch for the correct time!!

I notice that the 1970's Lionel clock (rectangular, with white lionel letters on red background) is unlit.
IMHO, that is the way to go. Folks interesting in acquiring that clock should know that if the light is used too much, the white plastic will discolor.

Thosre are awesome! I love the Service Station one and the 1970's one the best. Thanks for showing them! Where did you pick up those 2?
C W is correct. I only light that clock every once in a while. I found the clock brand new never used in the original box. I have it in a position right now where I need to bring an extension cord up to it since it is mounted about 10 feet off of the floor.
Sean...thanks so much....glad you enjoyed. Both of those clock I acquired on E-bay.

According to my understanding, the neon service station clock (picture reposted below) was only available to authorized service stations, and they were limited to two pieces. When those clocks came out they shot up in price very rapidly, and over time settled back down. I don't know the current market value on them. They do show up on Ebay from time to time.

This clock was located on the outside of a train depot....it has three different colors of neon: red, white, and green. The diameter is 32 inches and is also known as a spinner clock because of the disc within the green neon that spins like a second hand.

I still have a few of the signs Sandjam shows in the first post. They were available to Lionel Service Stations around 1992-3. As Service Station #330 we entitled to buy the signs which are 24" x 14" and are numbered; Part#9065929000 (just says Lionel Trains) and Part#9065930000 which also includes the picture of the engine as shown in Sandjam's post above. My signs are in new in sealed boxes. If interested email me at hilife@comcast.net. Jerry

CW....I recall buying it on "the bay". I'll check my files and see if I have the invoice.
Yep.....purchased on the bay for $29.95 plus shipping. I don't believe it is a piece offered by Lionel but a pirate copy.
I was able to score this one recently.
Charlie...nice find and picture. You can see in my post above that I have one too! I found mine unused in the box and I was the one that got to open it for the first time. I turn the light on only for short times just a few times a year because the plastic that was used in the construction of the sign is yellowed by the fluorescent light inside.

Boy some of you have some great Lionel signs. I really like the Neon ones.
Being frugal and a scratch builder I made mine from 1/4 inch plywood and two mini Christmas tree light sets which took a while to find blue and orange. It is 34 in X 17 in. It hangs in a window during the Christmas season.

These are so varied. All of them are really great additions to a train room.
