Hey guys, I need some advice about electrical connections to Lionel Fastrack.  I use the Lionel wire connections from the track lock ons to my terminal block.  I connect the Lionel connectors to 18g wire then to the terminal block.  My problem is this, the Lionel connectors will slip off of the post underneath the track.  I am currently going back and cripping the connectors to make them fit tighter on the post.  Is this a good way to fix this issue, or am I waisting time and should be doing this another way?  Thank you for your help.

That really should be enough.  I've run a carpet layout that spanned three rooms and had a single drop with #16 wire to the track!  I don't recommend it, but three locomotives were pulling 6-8 cars each with no problems anywhere on the layout.  I use DeoxIT D5 on the Fastrack connections to minimize the resistance, it works great.  I get very little power drop end to end, quite surprising actually.

I recommend a power drop every 10-12 feet for a permanent layout as a rule, given good conductivity of the track joints.

Hamlet,

My original Lionel FasTrack electrical connectors are so tight that I could hardly get them on, have never had one come off, had my fair sized FasTrack layout up and in use, for almost 8 years.  The newer wire conections must have been made differently than the originals, this is the second time now, that I have heard of different things happening with newer FasTrack, that never seemed to happen with the original track runs.  I am starting to question the Quality control on the newer FasTrack.

Gunrunner,

Thanks for the product.  I found some at our Radio Shack.  I really appreciate your help on all my questions.

PCRR/Dave,

I think you are correct.  I just purchased my first Lionel engine and have had numerous issues.  I am sure some are my fault, but some are quality issues too.  I like the Lionel products but I have been an MTH fan from the start.  Good quality and afordable.  Best railroading!
