Lionel 6-81531  MKT Legacy non-powered B Unit.  FB 2.

I'm operating in command with a Legacy controller.

This is new and was not running properly.

As can be seen from the pics, I found a small piece of metal that was riding on top of the magnet, trapped between there and the Hall Sensor Board.  I was drawn to this area because I found that the wheel set with the magnet on the axle was not rotating freely like it should.

It most likely made contact with one or more of the Hall Sensor Board contacts.

I don't have the Hall effects, where the smoke diminishes  when at idle and increases when in movement.  You can usually hear the smoke motor reduce speed at idle in a properly functioning unit.

I'm also stuck on one level of smoke output.....I have no control for smoke  L M H.

With the issues explained, if the Hall Sensor was damaged, would it be causing these problems?  Or is it in the RCMC?  If the Hall Sensor was taken out by the piece of metal would that damage the other boards?

I still have functioning lights with back up light for reverse.  I can also turn the smoke unit off and on.  And the coupler works.

Thank You and appreciate the help.

Dave

Contacted Lionel.

After the tech heard the issue, they think it is the Hall Sensor and not the RCMC  board.  Being locked into only one smoke level they say points to the Hall Sensor.

Most likely taken out by the piece of metal.

Over 3 years old although new, so no warranty.  I purchased a new Hall Sensor and it is being shipped.

Hopefully the Hall Sensor will do the trick.
