Well finished my first try at a lashup of 2 legacy steam engines. I took a flyer and decided to do a lashup of Lionels new Legacy J3a Hudson 5415 & 5416. one engine was a MR Muffin's special run and the  other was a Pats Train special run. Both weathered by Harry Heike. I struggled to try to figure out how to modify the engine front coupler to a workable dummy knuckle coupler. fortunately I got the answer from some OGR members (separate thread) which involved finding a Vision line Hudson dummy coupler. This particular coupler had a swivel in the center of  it's shank. the tricky part was finding one with Lionel being closed. Went looking in my storage Lionel boxes and found one in my Vision Line Hudson carton. whew!!! Hooked the engines up and build them into a TR setup. and away they went happily pulling a new MTH NYC passenger car consist. And boy are they beautiful. Here is a video of them running.

Looks great, but something is screaming for some oil!

Thats for sure! Sounds like  possibly the tender of the first hudson. Maybe a pickup roller needs some oil, or theres a ground strap rubbing the back of the wheels. Sounds like nails on a chalkboard LOL!

By the way, those hudsons look pretty worn, they should be pulling hoppers:

well still could not hear squeal so got wife to help me locate it. it turned out to be in the front truck that I had replaced. it was one of the truck wheels rubbing against a ground mounting screw that had come loose when engine was in a turn. fixed problem, no more squealing according to my wife. anyway very happy with the special run Hudson's, harry's weathering and this forum. thanks again all.
