Well finished my first try at a lashup of 2 legacy steam engines. I took a flyer and decided to do a lashup of Lionels new Legacy J3a Hudson 5415 & 5416. one engine was a MR Muffin's special run and the other was a Pats Train special run. Both weathered by Harry Heike. I struggled to try to figure out how to modify the engine front coupler to a workable dummy knuckle coupler. fortunately I got the answer from some OGR members (separate thread) which involved finding a Vision line Hudson dummy coupler. This particular coupler had a swivel in the center of it's shank. the tricky part was finding one with Lionel being closed. Went looking in my storage Lionel boxes and found one in my Vision Line Hudson carton. whew!!! Hooked the engines up and build them into a TR setup. and away they went happily pulling a new MTH NYC passenger car consist. And boy are they beautiful. Here is a video of them running.

Tango man,
Congratulations looks great I love doubleheader steam. I run two Legacy K4s doubleheader at my club’s open houses and the crowd loves them. You only have one more thing to do............put some oil on the wheels more specifically the axles.

Glad it worked out. The weathered Hudson’s look great.
Looks great, but something is screaming for some oil!
JohnB - You hit the nail right on the head! A great looking lash up, but hard on the ears as I watched it - lol. (I say this because of my own personal experience)
tangoman - This is not meant as a criticism, just an observation. Very nice layout!
Thanks for the comments. glad you liked it. and yes my wife says same thing that I like to run my trains loud. I am kind of hard of hearing.

Now you know why.

Thats for sure! Sounds like possibly the tender of the first hudson. Maybe a pickup roller needs some oil, or theres a ground strap rubbing the back of the wheels. Sounds like nails on a chalkboard LOL!
By the way, those hudsons look pretty worn, they should be pulling hoppers:
well still could not hear squeal so got wife to help me locate it. it turned out to be in the front truck that I had replaced. it was one of the truck wheels rubbing against a ground mounting screw that had come loose when engine was in a turn. fixed problem, no more squealing according to my wife. anyway very happy with the special run Hudson's, harry's weathering and this forum. thanks again all.
