ya'll forget the new S3 has whistle steam also with blue tooth, the first one no whistle steam

I believe the new one will NOT have whistle steam either.  Since the tooling is already designed for it. It will have cylinder steam just like the first run.

From lionels description:     " Lionel's re-release of this stunning model includes innovative features like cylinder steam and a kinematic drawbar, steam whistle sounds, air horn sounds, and working red emergency light on the smokebox."

When will these be made? I didn't pre order but hope to find an extra 261 when they hit.

Charles Ro's website has an estimated delivery of  7/10/18.  He typically has extras for folks that don't preorder

Thanks Rick! I'll give them a try then. I was thinking it would be mid to late summer. Thanks again for the info.

Many good LHS guys advertise on the Forum.  Some of them have Certified Tech people.  I would give them  the nod any day of the week over fleabay.   Your money you take the chance if you desire.    We know the fleabay seller does not have a Lionel Tech guy.     I have the S3 that I purchased new.  One fantastic locomotive with no issues.

When I bought my 261 several years ago, I thought that Lionel priced it the way it did as a come-on to attract new people into the higher end of the hobby ... and maybe as a thank-you to those customers who had been buying the higher-priced models. Rather than looking for a short-term win with the 261, the company opted to lose a few bucks by pricing it low, but making up for it later with other engines; kind of like what Amazon is now doing with Whole Foods.  I guess I was wrong, eh?

My inside informant told me that Lionel priced this locomotive low to encourage buyers and increase production quantity. Unfortunately, it did not sell in large enough numbers for Lionel to do that again.

?? Not sure I understand this.

There was a lot of excitement about the engine when it came out, and it sold out pretty fast is my recollection. That's one reason Lionel is doing another run of it.
