HELLO.....

I BURNED OUT A LIONEL TRANSFORMER TRYING TO GET THE ABOVE WHISTLE TENDER TO OPERATE USING THEIR CONTROLLER ISSUED WITH THE TENDER.  THE 80 WATT

TRANSFORMER THAT COMES WITH THE SETS BLEW RIGHT OUT AFTER WIRING.  IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO MAKE THESE TENDERS WHISTLE WITHOUT USING THE DARN

SWITCH.  IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE SYSTEM....THE SWITCH HAS AN ON AND OFF BUTTON.  THE TRANSFORMER HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE WHISTLE.  HELP OR I

TOSS THEM.....THANKS IN ADVANCE..

If you have an 80 watt set transformer(BW, CW), you don't need any extra controller(like the one included with the 16673). Just use the whistle button on the transformer.

Additionally, even if the controller was wired in the worst possible manner, it should not have caused these transformers to "blew out".

Rob,

Understand your comment but I still have a CW-80 that the green light blinked twice and went south after that once the connection was made.  Now, as far as the tenders blowing the whistle with a CW-80, I tried both new tenders and they don't blow!  Both tenders were new and taken out of boxes to test before taking to show this Saturday and Sunday.  I'll check my track tomorrow to make sure I am getting correct power to tenders.  Thanks for your reply.

The transformer failure was most likely coincidence. They go w/o notice & for seemingly no reason.

Did you try the bell button? Some of these tenders were wired with the wrong polarity - any easy fix with swapping two wire nut connections.

Bob, I tried both buttons.  Funny thing.....I notified Lionel Service about he transformers......their responsive was mute.  Didn't want to know a thing....said all issues were resolved in 2005!

Like I said earlier, I will check the power to the test track with my remaining CW-80. Will look inside tender for the wire nuts.......Thanks again.

I suggest using a meter to check your whistle controller for a short.

C.W,

This **** tender works if I gigle the wires sometimes.  Could it be the Circuit board?  All wires are attached correctly.  Switched wire nut connections and that didn't work.  Appreciate any other thoughts before I junk it...
