So I fixed a chattering worn early postwar whistle tender brush plate by drilling out the armature hole to ~0.200" and inserting a OM-3 flanged bushing obtained from a scrap 1654 motor chassis. It's a great fix. You keep the original brush plate and the repair uses an actual bushing that will outlive a replacement fiber brush plate.
I see this bushing is used in 1654, 1655, and 1656. Seems like it should be a common part but no one has them listed. Did the part Number change? No one seems to list anything remotely like it. Even google failed me.
