Hi.  I'm curious as to whether this 15th anniversary set has been made yet.  On the Lionel page, it is listed as sold out, whereas the handful of hobby shop websites (and Amazon) I have looked into have this listed as "back order" or temporarily out of stock.  This leads me to believe that no one yet has the set to re-sell online.  Would it be prudent for me to place an order with a hobby shop, or is there another option I might have missed?

Only 1500 sets were made and all 1500 pieces are allocated for from dealers.  That is why Lionel is sold out.   I believe they were all spoken for and sold by like the first week it was announced.  Seems to be very popular.  Try to get your pre order in we still have room.

I’m on the fence regarding the purchase of a set.

A video would be perfect or even actual pictures could help.

I’m most interested to see how the cars look in comparison to the previous versions.

I know they are shiny as with the locomotive with an ugly 15th Anniversary sticker.  The key is that they only made 1500, and I doubt add-on cars will be offered.  You probably could sell it in one year for $500 or more, or wait for the 20th Anniversary.  Trainworld has a video on YouTube from York where you get a brief glimpse of it.

Have new footage just waiting for our video guy to finish off the video!  Stay tuned. I think it looks pretty neat.

Translation for the non-Francophone audience.  He's seen the video at Model Train Stuff and the coach lighting is beautiful, but the 15th anniversary sticker is neither necessary nor attractive.  

Lionel should sell separate cars with the lights but without the stickers.

It’s a beautiful set.   We have sold four in just the last week.   It seems to me like a great Christmas set you take out once a year.   The shiny finish is perfect for under the tree with the lights glowing off the cars

I think actual figures inside would have been nice for a special set. Dave

I just picked one up today. Several local shops had them in stock and I was on the fence. I have a set from 2005 and bought non 15 yr anniversary  set for my daughter back in October. 

I needed another set for my other daughter and I was intrigued by the 15 year newer paint style. I saw that between on line stores and local shops having them in stock I didn't have to rush.

When I bought mine I mentioned that I had checked on line and they were cheaper but that I decided to buy it locally. I never asked for a discount. The store owner thanked me and without asking dropped the price to about the same as I could get it on line. He said he appreciated my business and hoped I would be back.

In any event I have not opened it yet but when I do I will try to post side by side photos.
