Just a quick review of the Polar Express TMCC Speeder...

This was an impulse buy but I'm glad I picked it up.  Great operation for a small TMCC unit, nice detail, and the paint matches the coaches perfectly.  Great job Lionel!  The Speeder does stop abruptly so slow it stop to a stop!

Crisp lettering!

Nice detailing on such a small unit.

It has a Santa figure...

And conductor figure.  Looks like the conductor needs some sun though, LOL!

Some really nice detail on this.  A must for a Polar Express Railroad!

Front

The paint matches perfectly to previously released scale Polar Express Passenger cars!

2 pickup rollers keeps it going for most basic layouts.  It handles a 90 degree cross at slow speed just fine.  A traction tire and the obligatory Program / Run switch for giving it a TMCC ID.

Here is a quick review video...

The stupidest thing they do with these is adding a traction tire!  Exactly what kind of grade are they anticipating?  I've pulled the grooved wheels from my speeders and put non-grooved wheels on.  Having better track contact helps them run through complex switches like my double-slip switches.  The lunacy of a traction tire on these is a total mystery to me!

Angry much over a traction tire?  Lol. I get it but it’s on there. I’m not inclined (although if I was I may need a tire) to remove it or care.

My problem with traction tires on small stuff like this is it causes reliability issues.  They're especially bad if you use insulated rails for signals/accessories, you can end up with only one wheel providing power.  Run that over any switch or even a dirty spot on the track and you stop in your tracks.
